Specific services include toenail trimming and thinning (debridement), callus removal, foot assessment, and recommendations for self care. Patient education is a top priority as there are many things that can be done to prevent complications such as ingrown toenails, foot pain, foot ulcers, etc. Your care is provided by our nurse practitioner and registered nursing staff in conjunction with the American Foot Care Nurses Association. Staff are Certified Foot Care Specialists, (CFCS), which means additional training besides foot care is obtained and ongoing monthly.
Foot Care Professionals strives to provide high quality, individualized care regardless of age, mobility limitations, or insurance coverage. Insurance is not accepted due to significant limitations on coverage in efforts to keep fees as affordable for everyone as possible. You may check with your insurance company to determine if reimbursement out of network is possible, and HSA payment is appropriate for these services. Any necessary documentation in this regard can be provided upon request.
The goal of Foot Care Professionals is to help YOU live well with YOUR feet. This includes obtaining timely appointments, safely processed (disinfected AND sterilized) instruments, convenient parking, in home or in office care depending on client needs, multiple scheduling options including telephone, email, or online scheduling, and adequate well-trained medical staff to meet the foot care needs of Rochester, MN and surrounding community.
Whether it is a simple nail trim, keeping toenail thickening under control, treating a painful callus, care for a homebound family member, or recommendations on how to manage your feet on a daily basis or on the trip of a lifetime, Foot Care Professionals is here to help!
Sheila Buehler, APRN, CNP, CFCS is an adult nurse practitioner and certified foot care specialist with the American Foot Care Nurses Association. After having worked for 31 years at a local medical facility here in Rochester, MN, she has expanded her passion to help people live independently with their foot care. Her goal is to provide accessible medical foot care services in a safe, timely manner.
Her experience is that people feel better when their feet feel better. Between our backs, our hips, thick curly toenails, painful callus, vision changes, neurologic issues such as Parkinson's disease and dementia, and hand dexterity, we all need help with our feet at some point. Medical resources are limited by reimbursement and inadequate staffing. Sheila started Foot Care Professionals in December 2021 in response to an ever-increasing wait list for access to care and ever-diminishing insurance coverage for routine foot care. This is an open-access foot care clinic that provides toenail trimming and debridement, callus removal, Swift microwave therapy for plantar warts, and guidelines on how to live well with your feet. No referral is required, no insurance requirements- just high quality, individualized care with YOU as the focus.
Her RN experience includes inpatient internal medicine for 15 months followed by 6.5 years working inpatient transplant (liver, kidney, pancreas transplant). She worked as a nurse practitioner in surgical and medical gastrointestinal cancer prevention and treatment for 14 years, then 4 years in Podiatry, caring for our local community patients.
Sheila's foot care training includes experience with the podiatrist and nurse practitioner colleagues in Rochester, hands-on training workshop in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, medical podiatry video training though Rainier Med, and ongoing continuing medical education for both foot care and general medical care to maintain her nurse practitioner licensure.
She finds helping people with their feet rewarding because it prevents pain, ulceration, infection, and empowers people to maximize their mobility. Sheila strives to provide personal, professional care for her patients. She developed Foot Care Professionals to help you, with an eye toward improving mobility and education for people in our community. Sheila looks forward to helping you soon!
